Product Description Nooma Noise 005 Rob Bell DVD! Zondervan, Flannel, subtitles: English, French, German, Korean, Mandarin, Potuguese, Spanish! From the Back:Why is silence so hard to deal with? Why is it so much easier for us to live our lives with a lot of things going on all the time than to just be in silence? Were constantly surrounded with voices that are influencing us on how to think, feel, and behave. Movies, music, TV, Internet, cell phones, and a never-ending barrage of advertising. Theres always something going on. Always noise in our lives. But maybe theres a connection between the amount of noise in our lives and our inability to hear God. If God sometimes feels distant to us, maybe its not because hes not talking to us, but simply because we arent really listening.

Pure Comedy...A Small Group Leader's Review... July 20, 2007 Well...The guys and I watched Noise last night.
Before I get to how that went, let me say that Noise is one of my favorite Noomas. It has a powerful message about all the things that try to drown out or distract us from hearing God's voice. It is well put togther and draws one in to the silence to truly hear God.
But not last night.
First, let's talk setting. We had moved venues for our group. Noise involves words that appear on screen. My tiny computer screen, which has never really done the job, was certainly not going to cut it for this Nooma.
So we relocated to the house of one of our group members who has a gargantuan screen.
However, a storm hit his place earlier in the day...leaving him (and our group) without power or a beautifully large screen.
Since there was no way for me to reach everyone in time, we still met at his house. Being an ever-gracious host, he ordered pizza and set about rigging his laptop so that it--on a desperately short battery--would play the DVD.
Goal accomplished!
The movie starts to play.
And right as the screen cuts to black silence...the pizza man arrives.
And we realize the words are FAR too small for half of us--those not right on top of the laptop--to read.
So...our pizza-toting host, who also happens to be a great public reader (he does reading for the blind), ended up reading the words for us.
The pizza was good.
The Nooma, though I am sure our watching of it would rate as unconventional and somewhat comical, was strong as well. We had a solid conversation time and, through it all, enjoyed ourselves.
It will be hard to top this week's meeting.
I give Noise a full recommendation.
Blew my doors off May 8, 2007 I first saw this Nooma video Noise in the summer of 2004. A friend brought it over and I watched it. The silence was powerful. I think this is one of the most profound Nooma videos to date. Everyone that I have shown it too has the same reaction, they are convicted.
Challenging, Thought-Provoking ,and Quiet November 7, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
In "Noise" (#5 in the Nooma series) Rob Bell surprises and intrigues the viewer with the challenge to be silent. And it is literally a challenge, as his gives that opportunity amidst the DVD. He only talks for 2 1/2 minutes, then there is a black screen with various written messages fading in and out along with (you guessed it) Silence!
I have yet to use this in a teaching setting. I'm just not sure that my group is ready for this yet. I've played this for myself when I need to clear my head and refocus myself when I get off track. However, his point is that we get so distracted by all we see and hear that we can't really focus on God like we should.
According to DVD liner notes, some people who bought this DVD called and complained because the DVD was only 2:34 long. It takes about 20 seconds for text to show up on the screen following that time. I guess that shows exactly how insecure we can be without noise and activity in our lives. But that drives home his point even further.
As you may have read elsewhere. Nooma is a great teaching series for older youth and young adults.
