learn what the knobs are November 4, 2006 How can you use a camera if you don't know what the buttons are? How can you use a camera if you don't know how to access the features that it has to offer. If you don't know how to use a machine, how can you expect to use it effectively? That's what this DVD did for me. While it did cover photography on a beginners level, the main focus of the DVD is to teach canon 20d owners about all the buttons, switches, and knobs found on the 20d. This DVD will not make you an expert on photography. But then again no book or DVD will. Read lots of books and magazines. talk to other photographers. ask questions. Most importantly practice practice practice. That's the best way to become a better photographer. If you are overwhelmed with all the bells and whistles on the 20d then this DVD is for you.
Great beginner's guide to the world of digital SLR cameras! December 2, 2005 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I went ahead and purchased my 20d a few days ago. Knowing that the camera is capable of amazing photos if I know the corrct settings I needed some sort of guide on how to get started w/ an SLR. I am sure glad I bought this DVD. The material is well presented and the chapters are outlined in the title menu so if you want to reference something quickly its a breeze. The basics section involves an orientation of all the controls and buttons and an overview of the different program modes. It then gets into how to compose photos and depth of field. The advanced section gets into topics like white balance, exposure, and metering. It ends with a basics on the photo software included w/ teh camera. Many of my questions were answered and then some on this DVD. I was going to spend $350 for private photo lessons about basic photo understanding before I discovered this disc. Now, I feel condfident to go out and play with the camera for a couple months then enroll in an advanced photo class down the road.
I recommend this DVD for anybody who wants to get to know their SLR camera and begin to take great pics.

Excellent software for understanding a Canon Digital SLR especially when upgrading from a compact digital camera, and for those times when a quick reference guide is needed when the mind goes blank ! - Great Software for a Great Camera, a perfect match when upgrading.
Best DVD on the Canon 20D for Beginners July 15, 2005 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I just bought the Canon 20D and wanted to get up to speed on this camera fast so I also purchased the Canon 20D Digital SLR training video for new to intermediate users. It is great!
This DVD will improve you picture taking in one hour! It eliminates the new user getting up to speed on:
*The Why and How to use the various buttons/turning wheels to quickly configure the camera for different shots *Understanding the differences between Basic Zones and Creative Zones and how to customize functions *A quick overview of the software tools that is included with the camera *For the beginner, the DVD does a good job at covering concepts such as AF Points, AF Modes, ISO, White Balance/Color Temperature, as well as photo Composition and printing
I highly recommend buying this DVD for those who are just starting into digital photography and have just bought themselves the Canon 20D.
You don't pay much and that's about what you receive. March 5, 2005 I was expecting much more detailed info on the camera. The nuts and bolts the tricks, special feature. The DVD's similar in content to the those "Short Course" books on camera's. I did pick-up a thing or two - I was expecting more. The best idea was suggesting you print out the PDF manual from Canon so you can study the manual without eye strain. Neat idea!
I'm not new to digital cameras. Was I expecting too much? Probably not. For nick-the-new-guy to the 20D it probably worth the money but not individuals familar to other digital SLRs.
I do recommend you print out your manual and go over it page by with the camera in your hands!
