Produced as a training film by the United States Navy in 1967, this video documents three important phases of tug boat activity: preparing for an ocean tow, getting underway and ocean towing procedures.With most scenes shot aboard USS Papago, the video provides an excellent overview of the rigorous job of the fleet tugboat sailor.Includes methods of towing, ie. bridle and multiple tows; the proper way to rig a tow and inspection of the ship or barge that is to be towed with emphasis on navigational lights, securing the ship's rudder, etc.Video also provides good views of the tug's engine room and highlights special precautions in rough seas and when picking up a tow in high seas. Video concludes with the delivery of the tow.
