Amazon.com Classic cartoon fans will delight in the bevy of classic Tom and Jerry animated shorts, each of which ends in the proclamation "Made in Hollywood, U.S.A.," and most of which are from the '40s. Fifteen episodes (totaling more than an hour) are featured. Included are: "The Cat Concerto," "Johann Mouse," "The Little Orphan," "Yankee Doodle Mouse," "Salt Water Tabby," "Tee for Two," "Solid Serenade," "Zoot Cat," "Johann Mouse," "Dr.Jekyll" and Mr.Mouse," "Mouse in Manhattan," "Kitty Foiled," "The Little Orphan," and "Jerry's Diary." It might surprise more mature viewers, with fond recollections of the adventures of the gray cat and the little mouse, how relentlessly violent (albeit cartoon violence) the 'toons are. This video, a collection of chase-centric films, is notably chock full of head bangin', body bashing, poisoning, and all-around disorder. The absolute highlight are two shorts low on smashin' and high on entertainment: "The Cat Concerto" and "Mouse in Manhattan," the first with Tom as the focus and the second with Jerry. They both involve forays into entertainment, a great soundtrack, and a fun story. The DVD edition adds "The Worry Song" from Anchors Aweigh, the classic showcase of the amazing (and oft-copied) duet of animation and live action, as Jerry dances with the wonderful Gene Kelly. Contrasted with the PC content of today's 'toons, Tom and Jerry is a literal blast from the past--a must for collectors, and for parents comfortable with explaining that Tom isn't really burned to ashes, and Jerry hasn't been beheaded. --N.F. Great Classic Cartoons December 1, 2008 I bought this for my husband, he remembers watching them as a kid, truly enjoyed it!
My son loves this movie November 10, 2008 We bought this video about a year ago and it is still one of my son's favorite movies. He is now 5 and when I turn it on, he laughs and laughs through the whole thing. It contains older Tom and Jerry videos so that is both good and bad. It is good because it preserves what I and even my parents remember watching as kids, but isn't the normal for today and is quite violent as Tom and Jerry often is. There is one episode where Tom is using a gun to try and shoot Jerry and one where he trys to poison him. I would recommend this movie with the warning of traditional Tom and Jerry violence.
Tom and Jerry's greatest chases September 16, 2008 "Tom and Jerry's Greatest Chases" is testimony to the fact that you don't need to hear verbal dialogue to enjoy a cartoon. I have watched this with my child, over and over again, laughing hysterically each time. I believe that it may be possible that boys enjoy Tom and Jerry more than girls, but I have no proof of this. Tom and Jerry is my little boy's all-time favorite cartoon, and "Tom and Jerry's Greatest Chases" is a classic!
kids love it August 31, 2008 My boys love this video. They are 6 1/2 and 3 1/2 and just crack up at it, and so do I. We even lost it once and I had to buy it again as they missed it and always asked about it. Great video.
Awesome For All Ages! March 21, 2008 I LOVED Tom and Jerry as a kid. I wanted to share some of the things I love with my 5 year old... and I am happy to say that Tom and Jerry are still adored by kids today. These are the straight up old school toons where Tom and Jerry are not friends. My kid absolutely loves Tom and Jerry now. We sit and laugh everytime Tom get's hit in the head or something crazy happens. These cartoons are so violent it's awesome! I grew up on this stuff and I think the violence in these cartoons is a good thing for the kids. It's not realistic at all and it's some classic humor. Plus, this is a great DVD with great episodes. Tom and Jerry are as much fun today as they were in the past and as much fun as they will continue to be when my great, great grandkids enjoy them as well.
