The folks at Pixar can do no wrong with Monsters, Inc., the studio's fourth feature film, which stretches the computer animation format in terms of both technical complexity and emotional impact. The giant, blue-furred James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (wonderfully voiced by John Goodman) is a scare-monster extraordinaire in the hidden world of Monstropolis, where the scaring of kids is an imperative in order to keep the entire city running. Beyond the competition to be the best at the business, Sullivan and his assistant, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. Director Pete Doctor and codirectors David Silverman and Lee Unkrich follow the Pixar (Toy Story) blueprint with an imaginative scenario, fun characters, and ace comic timing. By the last heart-tugging shot, kids may never look at monsters the same, nor artists at what computer animation can do in the hands of magicians. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars Monsters? Hardly.   July 21, 2008
Love this movie. These "monsters" are lovable and cute. My daughter that is usually easily frightened loves this movie and so do I. Appropriate for adults and children.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun   July 1, 2008
A good movie to put a smile on your face and take a break from real life.

5 out of 5 stars Can Pixar do anything wrong???   June 25, 2008
My answer would be no.
Movie after movie is brilliant, innovative, imaginative, beautiful.
The animation is awesome.
The voices are spot on.
I wish Disney would take a closer look at why Pixar is so successful.
No annoying characters, and no annoying songs every five seconds.
Pixar movies are for everyone, not just the kids.
Monsters is probably my favorite still.
The story is so good, I don't even know how many times I've seen this.
The ending pulls at the old heartstrings.
I recommend this along with EVERY movie Pixar has done.
For kids, for adults.
If I could give this movie ten stars, I would.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

4 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable; point lost on smaller children   June 18, 2008
My four-year old enjoyed this movie, and was not scared by the monsters, but didn't really understand what was going on (although I thought it was hysterical). I would recommend for perhaps 6 or 7+.

5 out of 5 stars FOR MONSTERS ONLY! A CLASSIC MONSTER STORY!   June 15, 2008

I love animated films and Monster Inc. is no exception. It's got great animation, characters and a well thought out story, but it might be a little too intense for the youngest viewers. Classic monster buffs will catch lots of winks and nods to the days of yesteryear in this irresistible and funny film. It might do your young children good to see this with an adult to help them get over 'the monsters in the closet' syndrome most kids have at a young age. The two disc set has a beautiful DVD transfer and lots of extras.
